You want to do the best for your family. You want a clean home that is organized and runs efficiently. You want a budget that you feel empowered and freed by. You would love to have systems in place that enable you to accomplish this ideal and you are perfectly normal for wanting this.We all want this for our homes and our families, this picture of a well managed home, and we turn to Google and Pinterest to find tips, tricks, and methods that will help accomplish this. With one search millions of sites, posts, and photos grab at your attention claiming to be the best, the fastest, or most efficient way to run your home, finances, or schedule.
Sounds okay so far, right? Well, there is a trap that too many of us fall into. We find these great ideas and try them only as long as it takes to find the next good idea. For example, when I wanted to improve our financial situation I found this awesome cash only system. It was so cool and worked great…until I found another budgeting system that focuses more on keeping organized on paper. Another that was tried was a paperless budgeting system and finally a 7 bank account system. By changing constantly I was never able to maximize or benefit from the advantages each held and wasted a ton of time setting each one up. I needed to learn to stop trying new things.
I know I’m not the only one falling into this trap because, the truth is, there are tons of great ideas floating around out there on the internet and it’s so hard not to get sucked into trying them out. Meal plans, scheduling, organization, budgeting and cleaning are just some of the topics that have a never ending supply of ideas, but, I have found that it is better for our own sanity and our families that we limit changing our systems and stick to one simple rule: The 3 Month Rule.
Try out new systems for at least three months. Its hard to know whether something will work if you only try it for a week or two, however, if you’ve tried it for 3 months and it’s still not working, you’ll know it’s not right and an appropriate time to change. I feel like three months is a good time frame for giving you a solid picture on how life with this new method of management will be.
Want to put this idea into action? Here is what I propose we all do: establish a method for each of the following categories and stay with it for three months. The categories will be: finances, scheduling, organization, meal planning, and house cleaning. I don’t know about you, but I could use a better system for all of these because throwing things together day by day is not working. Keep track of how it’s going and at the end of three months we can all look back and see if we are better for it or not.
Now, we can’t set this goal without getting it in writing, so I’m including a printable to help plan your methods of management. Fill it out with the sources and a brief description your methods of management and keep doing them for three months!

Stop trying new things every time you stumble upon them. Together we can develop a consistent method for managing and I believe that in three month’s time, we will have cleaner homes, better meals, a handle on our finances, and be happier overall. Well, maybe not all of that, but hopefully some of it.
