Like all little girls, I wanted a pony. A nice lovable one to call my own was all that would do. This wasn’t as far out of the realm of possibilities for me as we already lived in the country with a few older horses. They were nice horses, but I wanted my own, and begged my Mom to let me buy one. Like most good parents, she offered that if I proved myself capable of taking care of the livestock, that I could have my wish. Every day for one full year I was to go out to check on the horses (and goats, sheep, chickens etc), give them water and food, and look after their needs. We marked the day on the calendar and for 365 days following I did my duty all the while dreaming of my future pony.
That, I believe, began my dislike for winter. In the warmer months caring for the animals was easy, enjoyable even. But winter was a whole other story. Layers of clothes had to be donned in order to trudge out in the freezing conditions (often before the sun even came up). The water would often freeze and had to be broken through with a big metal bar. Doors and gates would be stuck tight in the frost, causing added time in the harsh Illinois conditions.
Long story short, I do not like winter, but I love spring, and in anticipation of the soon approaching season, I am co-hosting in a “Leap Into Spring” giveaway for $100 paypal cash.
Now, with the warm spring sun and green life emerging everywhere comes the potential for great things. For instance, I am dreaming of a big garden this summer. Oh, by the way, my hard work paid off and I ended up getting my pony. Her name was Cindy and she was a Halflinger/Welsh Cob cross. Stubborn as a mule, and ornery as they come, she was my best pal through those tough middle school/high school years.
