This little project is special to me. It was my first attempt at disassembling a pallet and turning it into something beautiful.
I got the pallets from my husband’s work at an Electrical company. This is him with my prize.
I just really like this picture of him. He’s so serious in it!
So, the crate…What I love about it is that the decorations inside can be altered to fit the season. For instance, right now it has white pumpkins, tall candles, and leaves surrounding them for a lovely fall look. In a month, I’ll trade those out for pine boughs, ornaments, and probably more candles (I love candles)
As always, I took no measurements, followed no plan. That’s just not how I roll. I chose a bottom piece that seemed stronger than the rest and base the length of the side pieces off of that. Since I had just gotten a new circular saw with angling capabilities, I decided to have the sides angle out somewhat. So, the sides of the bottom piece, and the bottoms of the side pieces (is this really hard to follow?) were cut at a 45 degree angle. Those were then screwed onto the bottom piece
To make the ends I just traced the shape of the ends of what I had so far, cut them according to that shape and screwed them on.
I then sanded and stained it, not enough to hide the charming imperfections, though.
And that was it! Simple as can be. I may add some handles to the end for a little extra decoration.
***Update: Here it is with some lovely Christmas decorations:
