These painted kitchen towels make a perfect handmade gift!

Happiness is Handmade: Painted Kitchen Towels

Welcome to the Happiness is Handmade DIY Gift Ideas Hop! For this blog hop, I’ve teamed up with seventeen other fabulous bloggers to bring you EIGHTEEN awesome DIY gift ideas that will be perfect for your gift giving needs this holiday season! You’ll find links to all of the ideas right at the bottom of this post! Plus, as an added bonus, we’re giving away $180 PayPal cash to a lucky winner to help purchase supplies to make these gifts (or to use on whatever you want)!

Now, if you’ve been following Charming Imperfections at all in the last few months you’ll know that I set out to have a totally handmade Christmas this year! This mission was born from a desire to have a more enjoyable and meaningful holiday season. What better way to do that than to use our talents and time to make quality handmade gifts for our friends and family?

Today, I am so excited to show you how I made these painted kitchen towels. They are a great gift because, not only are they totally functional and almost everyone can use a few extra of these, but they are totally customizable!

*Below you’ll find Amazon Associate affiliate links indicated by a * which are provided for your convenience. See my full disclosure here.

The supplies you’ll need are:

  • SoSoft Fabric Paint from DecoArt (Colors I used were: Cadmium Orange, Indian Turquoise, and Brown)
  • Stencils*
  • Painter’s tape*
  • Stencil brush* (or a regular brush*)
  • Tea towels*

Painted Towels Tutorial:

Before you begin, you may need to run your towels through the wash and iron them.

Once that’s done, do some prep work: if you are a messy painter like me, you’ll probably want to lay down some newspaper on your crafting surface before you begin 😉 Then, get your stencil and paint ready to go.

I love this tribal print stencil from Hobby Lobby! You could also use stencils to paint on a name or favorite phrase.

Another way to decorate these towels is with some simple stripes. I did this using painter’s tape just as you would to create stripes on a wall (except a lot closer together).

The one to the far right of the picture I just did by hand.

Like that chair or sewing cabinet?

I’m totally in love with how they turned out and can’t wait to give them to some of our friends and family! However, I might have to keep some for myself 😉 They cost very little to make and are fairly easy if you have a little creative skills (or just know how to use a stencil well!)

Make sure to pop over to the other 18 bloggers participating in Happiness is Handmade for more wonderful gift ideas! And, definitely don’t forget to enter for a chance to win some Paypal cash to fund your Holiday crafting this year.

Rebekah, this is such a fun gift idea! I hadn’t thought to decorate hand towels before. Everyone needs new hand towels… or maybe it’s just me! I can always use more of them.
